Dissection and Decay of Your Flowery Bullshit - lexybaluyot
The precolonial era of the Philippines found that all genders were treated with equal standing, if not a higher regard for women. Sexism, one of the effects of colonization, is rampant in modern societies around the world. From birth, we were tainted by being told how to behave, what we are supposed to wear, and what we can and cannot play with solely based on the shape of flesh between our legs.
I have always found it odd that inanimate objects were pulled from my reach because of my gender. As a child my parents chastised my “boyish interests” in things like horror movies, short haircuts and skateboards. I visualized their targeted words, the rationalizations coming from their mouths as ever-growing stream of flowers and twisting vines, strangling me.

At the end of it all, we get to showcase our works, so come on down, enjoy some food, live music, and Art! Show yer support fo dem local Filipinos~
Come see my stuff at Twist Gallery (August 7th, 8pm) along with the rest of CLUTCH and NAVIGATION collectives. <3 I’ll be singing as well.
Watch till the end.
We smile when we’re harassed on the street or hit on by jerks. We laugh at sexist jokes. We learn that when we have strong opinions, we’ll be called bitches and that if we get angry, we’ll be called hysterical. When we say what we want, we’re called pushy or aggressive.
Part of learning “ladylike” behavior is about learning to smile politely when someone is being crude. Femininity has long been attached to passivity and to being docile. Men fight, women giggle and fume silently.

“Marina Abramovic and Ulay started an intense love story in the 70s, performing art out of the van they lived in. When they felt the relationship had run its course, they decided to walk the Great Wall of China, each from one end, meeting for one last big hug in the middle and never seeing each other again. at her 2010 MoMa retrospective Marina performed ‘The Artist Is Present’ as part of the show, a minute of silence with each stranger who sat in front of her. Ulay arrived without her knowing it and this is what happened.”
